New Rugby Wheelchair for Inspiring Paralympic Athlete

The CiaO Foundation, in conjunction with the Matt Hampson Foundation, is very pleased to announce the presentation of its latest Primrose Award to Jamie Stead, a truly inspiring young Paralympic athlete. Both organisations are jointly providing Jamie with a new Rugby Wheelchair to replace his previous chair which broke whilst competing. The new chair will allow him the opportunity to play and train with the aim of competing in the 2017 European Championships and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Jamie (pictured on the right with the rugby ball) has been wheelchair bound pretty much all of his young, 23 year old, life after a birth related injury left him physically disabled. He admits himself that this challenge has at times left him “in a pretty dark place, unhappy in life and with no motivation.” Though that was before he found Wheelchair Rugby, which gave him a new lease of life and a sense of purpose. “For me, there is no better feeling then putting on that GB jersey and representing my country. Wheelchair rugby has made me the person I am today.”

1st of the TRIple Challenge – Done!

Have you been following the story of the intrepid Triple Triathlon Challenge being undertaken by our CiaO Media Manager? We are pleased and proud to announce that Jamie McGhee has successfully completed the first of his three triathlons, the Bristol Triathlon on 11th June 2017.  He managed to meet a mini personal goal, completing the event in under 2 hours and quicker than a triathlon he did in 2015. This is both a big personal and fundraising challenge for Jamie. He is really aiming to change his life around on a fitness level. He is also hoping to help change the lives of others through the fundraising he is doing for ourselves at the CiaO Foundation as well as two other amazing charities - Bristol Drugs Project and the Albert Kennedy Trust. Follow more of Jamie's Progress on his @try_a_tri twitter feed and  Try A Tri Challenge Blog.

Apply for a Primrose Award

The next meeting of the CiaO Foundation's Trustees will be held in July. As part of that meeting nominations and applications for the next round of Primrose Award presentations will be discussed and finalised.

The Primrose Awards are the CiaO Foundation’s unique award scheme, aiming to provide practical assistance (upon successful application) to nominated individuals in meeting challenges and seizing the opportunity from the experience. Do you know someone, like Jamie the inspiring Paralympic Athlete above, that is experiencing their own particular challenge? Why not nominate them for a Primrose award, before the 10th of July 2017 to be considered for the next round of Award submissions.
